Robert Pattinson Gets Good News at Toronto Film Fest

Robert Pattinson Gets Good News at Toronto Film Fest 1Robert Pattinson is getting some good news from the Toronto International Film Festival, and it doesn’t involve his ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart. His latest film project is drawing strong interest.

Stewart is in Toronto to promote her latest film “On the Road” with Garrett Headlund and Sam Riley, while Pattinson spent last night in Los Angeles for the MTV Video Music Awards.

But deal makers have been busy brokering the rights to his new film “The Rover” and scoring solid progress on the film’s distribution. The film was sold in the United Kingdom, Canada, Benelux, Scandinavia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The, film is directed by David Michôd, who also wrote the story in collaboration with Joel Edgerton, an Australian action star who also will appear in “The Great Gatsby.”

In a far off post-apocalyptic future, Pattinson’s character, Reynolds, is a simpleton associated with deadly gang that robs a hardened loner Eric, played by Guy Pearce. To get back his car and his few possessions, Eric enlists Reynolds, who was hurt and left behind by the gang.

Among other things, the heady interest in the film, which will start shooting next year, shows that Pattinson is still highly bankable, despite Stewart’s cheating scandal with “Snow White and the Huntsman’s Director Rupert Sanders.

Pattinson’s latest film “Cosmopolis” has drawn mixed reviews and his efforts outside of the “Twilight” franchise, which include “Water for Elephants” and “Bel Ami” have not been big hits.

FilmNation bought the majority of distribution rights for “The Rover” at the Cannes Film Festival in May, and a company rep said the response from buyers so far has been “great.”
