President Obama is leaving no detail unchecked in his campaign for re-election. He clearly had been briefed about rapper Nicki Minaj’s supposed endorsement of Republican Mitt Romney. And he had the right answer when asked about it.
Minaj apparently had become a lightning rod in the presidential campaign after a number of news outlets reported that the “Roman Reloaded” singer had endorsed Romney. They took their cue from a new Lil Wayne mixed tape called Dedication 4.
On the tape, she raps: “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / You lazy bit*hes is fu*king up the economy.”
The Obama team obviously went into crisis mode. For 12 hours, the “Nicki endorsement” was front page news. Was it suddenly hip to vote Republican?
Of all the matters of state and public policy he has to deal with, could the president possibly even have a clue who Minaj is, much less what she’s spitting on a mixed tape? Probably not, but some quick-thinking must have.
The other shoe dropped this morning (Sept. 12), when Obama was asked during an Orlando, Fla., radio show what he thought of the rapper’s lyrics. The president was locked and loaded with the answer.
“I’m not sure that’s actually what happened,” he replied. “She likes to play different characters. So I don’t know what’s going on there.” WTE?
No less than Minaj herself confirmed the president’s take on the endorsement. “Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do… *sends love & support*,” she Tweeted.
Thus, a crisis of state was averted and the political campaign could get back to more substantive issues, like where’s Waldo?
As for Fox News, sorry folks, it was just too good to be true.
