Jennifer Aniston is back in a tabloid with yet another screaming headline that she is finally pregnant. But the story appears to be made up as odds dwindle on her ability to conceive.

The fact is, Aniston is not only unlikely to be pregnant, but more unlikely to get pregnant at her age. The actress turned 43 in February.

According to medical experts, it’s almost impossible for a woman to get pregnant using her own eggs at that age, and by the time she’s 45 the odds against pregnancy rise to almost a medical certainty.

Celebrities Who Gave Birth After 40

Jane Seymour: Twins at 44
Susan Sarandon: Baby at 46
Madonna: Baby at 41, after previous birth
Mimi Rodgers: Baby at 45
Iman: Baby at 44
Cheryl Tiegs: Twins at 54
Brook Shields: First baby at 37; second at 41
Geena Davis: Twins at 48
Courteney Cox: Baby at 41
Jan Kaczmarket: Babies at 42, 44, 47
Mariah Carey: Twins at 41

That’s because the ability to naturally conceive falls sharply in most women. At 40, the chance of conceiving is about 40 percent, falling to about five percent by the mid-40s, according to medical references.

“Your odds of getting pregnant at 41 are much better than they are at 43,” Julia Johnson, chair of the reproductive endocrinology and infertility department at the University of Massachusetts, said in a recent interview.

Even so, it’s still possible for her to conceive using “in vitro” techniques or another woman’s eggs. So-called designer babies are fashionable among celebrities, which helps explain why so many stars, from Julia Roberts to Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey have twins.

The list of celebrities who have babies in their 40s is long, including Jen’s BFF Courteney Cox. Of course, it always helps if you’ve previously been pregnant. But many turn to expensive in vitro treatments to conceive and have been successful.
