Kate Hudson is ready to get back to work now that son Bingham is a year old. “I’m really looking forward to producing more, and directing. Something comedic,” she says in a new interview. But that doesn’t mean she’s slowing down, or dialing down her vampiness.
In fact, just the opposite. She’s doing a guest-star arc on the hit Fox Show “Glee” that will keep her on her toes.
“I’m friends with [Glee creator] Ryan Murphy,” she tells Harper’s Bazaar. “He said, ‘I’d love for you to come do Glee,’ and I was like, ‘How fun!’ Now that Bing’s over a year old, I’m going to start working again. So Glee is kind of perfect.”
Kate plays Cassandra July, a “negative-reinforcement” dance instructor and mentor to Lea Michelle’s character, Rachel Berry. She graduated from McKinley High last season and now attends the New York Academy for Dramatic Arts.
The role requires lots of high energy performances. But Kate’s been there. She crammed a lot of high-energy living into her 20s. “I shot [2000 rock and roll movie] ‘Almost Famous’ at 20, and I got married [to musician Chris Robinson] at 21. I had Ryder at 24 so, you know, a lot happened in my 20s.
“I was working a lot, and there were times that were extremely tumultuous. So 30 kind of felt like ‘Oh, okay.’ I had a different kind of confidence,'” she tells the magazine.
Hudson split from the Black Crowes frontman, now 45, in 2008 after six years of marriage and one son. Ryder Russell was born in 2004. They appeared to be one of Hollywood’s stabler couples.
She met fiance Matt Bellamy at a Thom Yorke concert at Coachella two and a half years ago. She was impressed because he was “immediately very protective and, you know, watchful,” she says.
They got engaged, but for the time being, she’s okay with a baby daddy in her life. ‘We’ll do it eventually, but I want it to be right. I don’t want to just do it, you know what I mean?’ Kate says.
Kate covers the home-delivered issue in a crystal embroidered Armani Privé veil while she wears a Ralph Lauren gown on the newsstand cover. She was photographed by Camilla Akrans and styled by Simon Robins.
