Gloria Allred Ready to Spring Mitt Romney October Surprise

Gloria Allred Ready to Spring Mitt Romney October Surprise 1Hollywood lawyer Gloria Allred, who’s handled shocking celebrity cases in her controversial career, is expected to be in court today (Oct. 24) in Massachusetts to urge a trial judge to unseal secret testimony by GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in a business colleague’s nasty divorce.

Allred, who considers herself a feminist lawyer, has represented a wide variety of celebrity clients including Tiger Woods‘ alleged mistress Rachel Uchitel.

She also most recently represented several men who claimed actor John Travolta made homosexual advances and sexually harassed them.

Politically, she represented one of the women who accused Republican presidential candidate Herbert Cain of sexual assault. She also outed California GOP candidate Meg Whitman for employing an illegal immigrant as a housekeeper.

In the Romney case, Allred is going after sealed court testimony that the presidential candidate gave during the divorce hearing of former Staples Chief Executive Tom Stemberg. The split from first wife Maureen Stemberg was reported to be “extremely ugly.”

She’ll be appearing on behalf of a client with the Boston Globe, which is petitioning the Norfolk Probate and Family Court in Canton, Mass., to open the files, according to gossip site radaronline.

Stemberg was one of Bain Capital’s first big clients while Romney headed the venture capital firm. Romney, through Bain, raised $2.5 million to help launch the Staples office supply chain and cashed out in 1989 with a hefty profit, according to Vanity Fair magazine.

Stemberg remains a close friend and is a major backer of Romney’s campaign. He gave a speech at this year’s Republican National Convention on Romney’s behalf.

Whether the court will rule on the matter immediately and releases the file or takes the matter under advisement for what could be weeks, remains to be seen. Stemberg could also block release of the testimony by appealing the judge’s ruling.

It’s unknown exactly what the files contain, but Allred, an ardent Obama supporter, seems certain it will hurt the Romney campaign.
