Kim Kardashian was reportedly banned from the Met Gala tribute to fashion in New York City Monday. It’s one of the biggest fashion events of the year, but Kim was judged too insignificant to attend.
Kardashian, who is widely viewed as a fashion icon, with her own line of clothing and fashion botiques, was noticeably absent. Her boyfriend Kanye West was there, but wandered around the gala alone, according to reports.
Kim attributed her absence to back-to-back photo shoots with sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian for their Sears brand clothing line. But Vogue editor and gala host Anna Wintour personally ordered Kim stricken from the guest list, according to gossip site radaronline.
Although known officially as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, Wintour wields considerable influence over who attends. Conde Nast, which publishes Vogue, is a big sponsor.
Tables are usually purchased by fashion brands and celebrities are typically invited to attend without cost. Such luminaries as Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce are among regular attendees. Young Hollywooders like Kristen Stewart and Emma Stone made the scene as well this year.
“Anna hates Kim,” a source told the gossip Web site. “Why would she be invited to the event? It is all the biggest stars in the world and Kim doesn’t fit that bill at all.”
“The Met Gala is $25,000 a ticket, but Kim can’t even buy her way in, Anna Wintour does NOT want her there!” the source claimed. Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton reportedly had to pay $25,000 for a seat to attend.
Kim has drawn a lot of criticism from Hollywood actors like Jon Hamm and Daniel Craig, who question her talent and the merits of reality television shows in general.
