Howard Stern is pretty genuflecting for someone who claims to be the King of all media. He jumped on Matt Lauer’s lap and planted a big kiss on the Today Show host’s cheek, in a show of, well, cheeky affection.
“You know, you look good,” said the comedian and radio show host. “I’m honored to be on the Today show. I never get to be on the Today show.”
Matt, however, looked totally caught off guard and not a little embarrassed by Stern’s acting out. But, hey, anything for ratings. The “Today Show” is locked in a heated battle with ABC rival “Good Morning America,” something Stern was all too aware of.
“We have to beat the pants off Good Morning America,” said Stern.
Former “Today Show” host and CBS News anchor Katie Kouric has started working for the ABC morning show, which actually beat Today in the ratings for the first time in 16 years.
Stern was on the show to talk about his stint as a judge on the NBC show “America’s Got Talent,” which premieres on Monday. He also talked about his on-again, off-again contract fight with Sirius Radio.
But he did his part to keep the segment lively, to say the least.
“You know, you look good,” Stern told him. “Matt and I are personal friends. We sit at my house, we drink wine, and we evaluate the show. We’re in a competition with [ABC’s rival] Good Morning America. We have to win.”
“We have to go,” said Lauer trying to cut to a commercial.
“Come here, you dog, you. C’mon, baby,” Stern countered, planting his kiss. Check it out below:
