Kristen Stewart is “On the Road” cool with her co-stars Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley in a new photo shoot for the June issue of M le Monde, the fashion magazine supplement to the French newspaper.
Stewart and much of the cast are in Cannes, France this week for the annual Film Festival. “On the Road,” based on the book by Jack Kerouac is competing for the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top honor.
Ironically, her film is going up against Robert Pattinson’s new film “Cosmopolis,” about a bizarre day in the life of a fictional Wall Street financier Eric Packer.
Both actors have a lot riding on the films. They both want to move on from their recurring role as Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen in the immensely successful “Twilight” series of films. The last in the series, “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” debuts in November.
The prestigious festival will showcase them in roles that are sharp departures from their well-known vampire saga characters.
“On the Road” is a fictionalized version of a roadtrip that Kerouac took back in the 1950s to find himself and explore America. Riley plays Sal Paradise and Hedlund plays Dean Moriarty. Kristen plays Marylou.
The book helped give rise to the Beat Generation in the ’50s and the counter culture in the 1960s.
Stewart poses more or less in character with the two actors for photographer Steven Pan. The intense portraits are styled by Emilie Kareh, with hair by Giannandrea and makeup by Jillian Dempsey.
