Oprah Ready to Take Bath on Chicago Co-Op Sale (photos!)

Oprah Winfrey proves having money to burn can sometimes be a problem. She’s trying to unload a co-op apartment in a luxury Chicago building and she’s willing to sell it for half of what she paid only six years ago.

The former talkshow host, now CEO of her own television network, paid $5.6 million for the 4,607-square-foot co-op apartment in 2006, and tried to sell it just as the real estate market was crashing in 2008 for $6 million.

She pulled it from the market then, but now she’s willing to give it away for $2.8 million, a hefty $2.8 million price cut. It seems like a bargain. The property has top-of-the-line finishes, which means Oprah must have also dropped a bundle refurbishing it.

The eight-room apartment has with 10ft ceilings and complete with its own library, a formal dining room, a butler’s pantry, a wine room and a solarium, according to the listing agent, Prudential Rubloff Properties.

Here’s one catch, however, she never lived in the Beaux Arts-style building designed and built in 1913 by architect Benjamin Marshall. She had concerns about maintaining her privacy in the apartment, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Winfrey lived in Chicago until last year at this time and jetted back and forth between the windy city and her sprawling $52 million ranch in Montecito, Calif., just outside of Santa Barbara.

The media mogul also has a farmhouse in Hawaii, a home in Antigua, a beachfront property in Lavallette, NJ, a ski chalet in Telluride, Colo and a home in Douglasville, Ga. Check out the apartment above.
