Hot Poppin' Culture News From New York City

Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour Bat for Obama (watch!)

Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour Bat for Obama (watch!) 1Sarah Jessica Parker and Vogue editor Anna Wintour are hosting President Obama at a New York City celebrity fundraising dinner. George Clooney’s raised $10 million at a similar fete in Los Angeles.

The two New York fashion fixtures have filmed spots promoting the dinner and they are hosting a contest to invite two members of the public to attend. Don’t be late! Wintour scolds the unwashed.

Seats at the 150-person dinner at Clooney’s house sold for $40,000 per person. But two-thrids the money came from tens of thousands of donors who also hoped to win a free ticket, according to The Los Angeles Times. Donors gave an average of $23 each for the honor.

The winners were Beth Topinka, a science teacher from Manalapan, N.J., and Karen Blutcher, a utility company worker from St. Augustine, Fla.

In her 30-second spot, Parker notes that the president is “the guy” who ended the war in Iraq and created four million new jobs. He’s also the guy who said you can marry anyone you want, she noted.

“That guy, President Obama and Michelle, are coming to my house for dinner on June 14 and I want you be there too,” she says.

The former “Sex and the City” star directs viewers to a Web site, JoinObama.com to enter the contest. It costs a minimum of $15 to be considered, but higher donations are encouraged.

Wintour’s spot is a little more soft sell. Instead of touting the president’s accomplishments, she talks about Parker and Michelle Obama. She seems a little patrician with her English accent, but we’re talking limousine liberals here.
