Chris Brown kicked of the Friday summer concert series on NBC’s Today Show, this morning (June 8) with two of his top songs. More than 18,000 people turned out to watch.
Fans began lining up for the early morning show on Thursday. The R&B singer kicked off the series with his hit song “Forever.”
Brown has been making a strong comeback since his 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna. It began when he won a Grammy in February for Best R&B album. But it hasn’t been a totally smooth ride.
He’s had several other blowups since then, including an instance when he shattered a plate glass window at ABC studios in New York after an interviewer asked him questions about the attack.
Comedian Chris Rock also used Brown as fodder for his shtick during his appearance on the “Today Show” yesterday (June 7).
“We’re hoping the same kind of weather hits us tomorrow when we’ve got Chris Brown out on the plaza,” said host Matt Lauer. Hits? Oops!
Rock couldn’t let that one slide.
“Did you say you hope the same weather hits you?” he shot back. “I hope some weather doesn’t smack us upside the head.”
Rihanna and Brown contributed to remixes of their songs “Birthday Cake” and “Turn Up the Music,” sparking rumors they might get back togeher. But Rihanna said in a recent interview with the UK Edition of Esquire that they are not dating.
Brown’s new album, Fortune, is set to be released on June 29. Check out his performances below.
