Lindsay Lohan is now blaming her leased Porsche 911 for her collision with a large dump truck, claiming the brakes failed to work, but more likely she could be facing charges of negligent or reckless driving.
TheImproper reported yesterday the most plausible explanation, given the circumstances surrounding the crash and the car’s performance capabilities.
Lindsay was likely traveling at a high rate of speed and not paying attention to the road. The slow moving, super-large dump truck caught her off guard and she crashed into the back of it, likely after making a too late effort to swerve to the left.
Most of the damage to her car was on the right side. As TheImproper estimated, and the truck driver confirmed, he was moving at about 40mph.
That means Lindsay was likely traveling close to 70mph or faster, because the force of the collision caused the deployment of the Porsche’s airbags.
At 70mph, her car was traveling around 103 feet per second, which doesn’t leave a lot of reaction time coming up on a dump truck traveling at 40mph, or around 58 feet per second.
Lohan now claims that the brakes on the Porsche failed, according to TMZ. But that explanation will hold up only until the brakes are tested. As TheImproper reported yesterday, the braking system on the high-performance car is one of the best in the world.
So brake failure, while possible, is highly unlikely.
The truck driver told TMZ that he was minding his own business when he felt a sharp jolt in the back of the truck. He looked in his rearview mirror and saw Lindsay’s smashed car pulling over to the side of the road.
The driver also says he has witnesses and a videotape of the whole accident. Lohan returned to work after the accident with minor injuries. The driver was unhurt.
