True Blood Recap: Tara Bites; Roman Has the Power 1

Christopher Meloni as Roman on HBO's True Blood.

Christopher Meloni sets the pace for last night’s “True Blood,” emerging as Roman, the sleek Guardian of the Authority. The episode finally provides some back story for Bon Temps’ vampires. They even have a Bible!

But that was’t the main reason Roman showed up. He was there to mete out vampire justice to Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard), and Nora who have been a pickle.

Both are facing true death, but manage to hold off any action by revealing that 3000-year-old vampire king of Mississippi Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare), is still lurking. Bill and Eric promised if they are spared, even temporarily, to track him down.

Russell isn’t going anywhere, at least not yet. He’s still flat on his back, although getting strong every day on a fresh diet of human blood. He’ll be back to making trouble before long.

Meanwhile, more back story was revealed when Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten), after making Tara, flashed back to her own making by Eric.

It seems Pam is running a brothel in early 20th century San Francisco when she’s attacked by a mad man. Eric saves her and has a feast to boot on her attacker. Call it a win-win for Eric.

If only Pam could maintain the same type of control over Tara Thorton (Rutina Wesley). Tara has an ax to grind with Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis), even though they saved her life. Seems like she should be grateful.

But she leaves a not-so-subtle clue about her feelings by ripping up Sookie’s house, despite the silver misters. She’s last seen running into the woods to lick her wounds… and plot revenge.

Vampires aren’t the only ones with problems. Alcide (Joe Manganiello) is in the doghouse, so to speak, by refusing to chow down on Marcus or accept the pack’s role as new master. While Martha is visibly upset, she’s got problems, too.

Daughter-in-law Luna (Janina Gavankar) wants nothing to do with her. Martha goes to her house to plead to let her see her granddaughter, touching off a huge argument between Luna and current beau Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) At issue, whether daughter Emma is a werewolf.

Sam ends up being thrown out of the house, only to be finally revealed that, much to Luna’s dismay, Emma is also a shapeshifter. She transforms into a baby wolf.

In a footnote: Steve finally revealed he is a vampire but kept his gayness under wraps. Even so, he makes a play for Jason.
