This has been the summer of Kim Kardashian, and not in a good way. Daily, almost non-stop, for weeks now, she has posted photos of herself on Twitter and Instagram to the point that her behavior seems dangerously compulsive, like she’s teetering on the edge.
When you count the paparazzi shots, which always seem staged to make a point, Kardashian is the most over-exposed celebrity in history. She makes Paris Hilton, at the height of notoriety, seem almost reclusive.
Check out some of the photos Kim posted in just the last week.
She’s far outdistanced sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian in media exposure. It doesn’t seem natural. Such compulsive behavior could easily be interpreted as a sign of over-bearing stress. Almost like she’s ready to snap any day.
Let’s face it, Kim is a tough cookie. She’s worked hard to get where she is. She’s endured the humiliation of a sex tape and widespread disapprobation in Hollywood, at least among serious actors. That has to hurt. Kim very much wants to be accepted.
But she’s been under tremendous pressure almost non-stop since she ended her marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries 72 days after their blowout $18 million wedding last year. For the first time, her career seemed in jeopardy.
Since then, she’s lashed back viciously at Humphries for trying to declare their marriage a fraud. He desperately wants to pull back the curtain on her sketchy reality shows.
She looked so much like damaged goods after the break up, she hooked up with the first celebrity that came along, Kanye West. It’s as if she wanted to prove she can still attract high-rolling men, even though she doesn’t really love him. In fact, she may not even like him.
Not only is he not her type, but she’s also had ample opportunity to date him over the years. He’s always been willing, but time after time, she passed over him for someone else, including Humphries. Just friends, she often said. What cruel condescension.
Now they’re in a relationship. It’s convenient, has short-term benefits and even offers joint-business opportunities. But it’s not the true love she said she’s always wanted with the kind of guy she really likes. It has to be eating her inside.
And her problems are far from over. Humphries is pursuing his divorce fraud case with dogged determination. She’s now supposedly threatening to use her shows to trash him even more. But unless she capitulates, she’s headed for the divorce trial of the century next year. Finally a real reality show.
She’s also a defendant in a class action charging that she systematically lied about the diet pills she’s been promoting for years to her fans.
So what does she do? She posts an endless stream of photos of herself to build up her self-esteem and hopefully to keep her fans in her corner. It’s a bread and circuses strategy of endless bikini photos, skimpy outfit snaps and infinite shots of her famous ass.
She even posted photos this week from her 2007 Playboy shoot. Memba’ them?
See? It’s me Kim! I’m the one with the tush to die for. Look at me! Love me! Love me! She’s afraid to step out of the public eye for even a day. God forbid she ends up like Paris… scorned, forgotten. How much more can she endure? How much more can we endure?
