Colin Ferrell makes Arnold Schwarzenegger look like a mamby pamby boy in the remake of “Total Recall,” the 1990 film that helped launch Arnold to fame.
Beside two hot women Jessica Beil and Kate Bekinsale to deal Farrell world is far more high-tech and futuristic, thanks to modern computer generated imagery.
The new trailer for the film has just been released and the action looks fast-paced and non-stop.
Director Len Wiseman and co-writers Mark Bomback, James Vanderbilt and Kurt Wimmer have promised that their movie will far more political than the original film.
The writers drew their inspiration from the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick.
While Arnold’s move was set on Mars, this movie takes place on earth. Set in 2084, the world has largely been divided into two spheres of influence, one based in China and the other in Euroamerica, a combination of the United States and Europe.
Farrell plays a common factory worker Douglas Quaid, who has fantasies about being a top secret agent. Enter Rekall, a company that can turn dreams into real memories. Farrell decides to go for it, and is dragged into a surreal world where freedom fighters are trying to overthrow the corrupt Fascist government.
He’s on the run from the police, who are under the thumb of Vilos Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston). He’s President of Euroamerica and all-around evil nemesis, who sits atop an empire controlled by corporations. Vilos, however, doesn’t make an entrance in the trailer.
Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Biel) to search for the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate. Oh, and all hell breaks loose.
With a $200 million budget, the film is shooting for blockbuster status, hoping to capitalize on the cult status among diehard fans of the original film.
