Katherine Jenkins gave one of the most emotional performances ever on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” in an amazing waltz with pro partner Mark Ballas. She brought tears to the eyes of many with the tribute to her late father.
The show was dedicated to memorable times in each contestant’s life and Jenkins, the overall leader, chose to honor her late father Selwyn Jenkins, who died of lung cancer in 1996 at age 70.
The judges were clearly moved by her graceful, flowing performance. She received a 29 out of 30 during “Most Memorable Year” week.
“It’s like your father’s arms were around you,” said Judge Carrie Ann Inaba, with tears welling in her eyes.
Judges Len Goodman and Bruno were equally effusive.
The bottom line, you are a wonderful dancer,” said Goodman, while Bruno called her performance “sensational.”
“If I could go back and tell my dad I would be in America and dancing on TV for him, he just wouldn’t believe it. That’s what’s just so overwhelming. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my dad. Dad, this waltz is for you,” Jenkins said before the performance.
Afterward, she embraced her mother, who was in the audience. “For all of us, it’s been a tough week emotionally. I’m just so pleased to celebrate my dad’s life,” she told co-host co-host Brooke Burke Charvet.
