Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer and Naya Rivera sing one of Whitney Houston’s earliest hits “How Will I Know” in the upcoming episode of “Glee.” It’s a stirring tribute to the fallen star whose Feb. 11 death was linked to drugs.
Michele posted a link to a video of the song, one of eight the cast will sing in their special tribute to the late singer.
The classic hit “How Will I Know” was released in 1985 and was one of Houston’s first tunes to soar to the top of the charts and was included on her self-titled debut album.
The song was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, with Janet Jackson in mind. After Jackson passed on it, Houston picked it up and sang it under a slightly different arrangement, making it an uptempo dance song.
The Gleeksters sing adhere more to its original arrangement. Riley’s character Mercedes Jones kicks off the performance a Capella while walking down a hallway at McKinley High. Santana (Rivera) and Kurt join in as Riley places a picture of Houston on her locker.
Rachel picks up next and they head to the school library before the quartet transforms into evening wear on stage to finish with the help of drum beat.
The episode will also feature growing anticipation around the marriage of Will Schuester and Emma Pillsbury, played by Matthew Morrison and Jayma Mays, respectively.
The Fox show earlier featured Amber Riley singing Houston’s classic “I Will Always Love You” from her movie “The Bodyguard” days after Houston’s death.
