Kim Kardashian Atones for Last Year’s Armenian Massacre Snafu

Kim Kardashian, Cosmopolitan UKKim Kardashian is speaking out on behalf of victims of the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turks in 1915.  It seems like the least she could do after she was duped last year into appearing on a Turkish magazine on Genocide Remembrance Day.

Kim, who is of Armenian descent, became an unwitting pawn in an effort to minimize attention for what’s known to millions of Armenians as a day of mourning.

She covered the Turkish edition of Cosmopolitan magazine last April. The month is when Armenians mark the years during and following World War I, when Turks murdered millions of their fellow citizens.

The scale of the genocide mirrors in many ways the Nazi Holocaust in World War II. As many as 1.5 million Armenians died through executions or forced death marches. At the time, Turkey was still known as the Ottoman Empire.

The cover was inflammatory because modern-day Turkey has continually been accused of trying to minimize the genocide and quash any mention of it in the national media.

Kim Kardashian Gets Play in Bitter Turk-Armenian Feud

The cover photo of the popular magazine, with U.S. origins, shows Kardashian smiling. Armenians viewed it as undermining the somberness of the rememberance.

“I just found out today that I am on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine in Turkey this month,” she wrote on her blog at the time.”I had no idea that Turkey was planning to run my story on their cover THIS month.”

Today, which is the official day of remembrance, Kim tweeted: “Today lets all stand together & remember the 1.5 million people who were massacred in the Armenian Genocide. April 24th, 1915.”

“Let’s get this trending #ArmenianGenocide !!!!!” she added.
