Ben Affleck has had a stellar year after directing and acting in ‘Argo.”

Ben Affleck is getting pumped up to host the season finale of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” with with musical guest Kanye West. according to the network. He and Bill Hader poke some fun at Affleck’s Oscar winning movie “Argo.” Is nothing sacred?

Affleck is coming off a big year capped by winning multiple awards for directing and best picture. His movie is about the dramatic rescue of U.S. embassy personnel during the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979.

But in one of their bits, Hader has some trouble separating fact from fiction about the true story. “Just saw ‘Argo,’ wow man, where did you get the idea for that,” Hader gushed.

“Bill, all that stuff really happened,” Affleck replied.

“But you made up the country, right. I mean Iran, how did you come up with that?” Hader continued.

“Bill, Iran is a real place,” the director deadpanned.

“You mean, Iraq,” said Hader correcting him.

“No Bill, those are two different places.”

“But the beard?” he added about Affleck’s month-old stubble.

“The beard is fake, yes,” Ben said finally going along.

“I knew it! Man! Hollywood..” said Hader with glee.

Affleck played the straight man to Hader’s goofing throughout the promo clip, which begs the question whether the hunky star will attempt comedy or just allow the SNL cast to play off his deadpanning.

And, it also raises a question just how much ‘Argo’ humor the cast intends to heap on the actor during his SNL debut. He won the Golden Globe Award and Directors Guild Award for Best Director, while the film won the Golden Globe Award, the Producers Guild Award and the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The show will also be Hader’s last as a cast member after eight seasons. The 34-year-old actor wants to concentrate on feature films. He’s already appeared “Superbad,” “Adventureland” and “Tropic Thunder,”

He’ll appear next in “The To Do List,” starring Aubrey Plaza. His wife, Maggie Carey wrote and directed the film.

Affleck recently starred in “To the Wonder,” written and directed by Terrence Malick. He stars with Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem. The film premiered in competition at the 2012 Venice Film Festival.

His next picture is “Runner, Runner,” a crime drama directed by Brad Furman and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. He stars with Gemma Arterton and Justin Timberlake. It’s in post-production.

Hosting “Saturday Night Live” is a nice victory lap for the 40-year-old star, although he may be overshadowed by the unpredictable West. Check out the promo below and follow TheImproper on Twitter.
