Mariah Carey Lip-Syncing on American Idol? Say It Ain’t So!

Mariah Carey sings on American Idol. Was it live or recorded?

Mariah Carey, who is noted for her five octave vocal range, may have committed a cardinal sin for an “American Idol” judge. She is being accused of lip-syncing her performance of hit songs on the finale of the show, which, of course, emphasizes live singing. To make matters worse she also dissed Jennifer Lopez.

Carey judged the live vocal performances of dozens of contestants during Season 12 of the show. How could she possibly agree to lip-sync her own performance?

While there has been no official word on her singing from the Fox show’s producers, or Carey herself, her reps said she performed every song live and even sang others for the audience during the commerical breaks.

But some viewers have taken to Twitter and other social media to express their outrage at her performance.

To make matters worse, Lopez also performed on the show and received a standing ovation from Carey’s fellow judges and the audience.

What Twitter is Saying

But Carey remained seated the whole time and didn’t even clap, although she did manage a smile.

Lopez, 43, performed a rigorous dance routine with rapper Pit Bull.

It’s been that kind of a season for the reality singing show. The finale, during which Candice Glover was crowned “American Idol” was one lowest rated in the show’s history.

Much of the spotlight was also on Carey and fellow judge Nicki Minaj, who just couldn’t stop sniping at each other.

During her performance, Carey stood at a microphone and seemingly belted out “Hero,’ “Make It Happen,” “My All,” “Vision Of Love,” “We Belong Together” and her latest release “Beautiful.”

But many viewers weren’t buying it. “Mariah Carey needs to practice her lip syncing. She on American Idol right now making a fool of herself,” one viewer Tweeted.

The performance below looks pretty seamless. For the record, the show billed Carey’s medley as “live.”
