Justin Bieber tries to attribute his bad behavior to his age and is booed during his speech.

Justin Bieber’s spate of bad behavior caught up to him at the Billboard Music Awards. He was booed roundly by the audience amid a standing ovation. He followed up with a “pity me” speech, citing his age and saying he deserved some respect.

Bieber may not know it, but if you have to ask for respect, chances are you don’t deserve it.

Bieber was called to the stage to receive a “Milestone Award” present by Cee Lo Green. The award is supposed to recognize artistic innovation and he was the first singer to receive one. It was awarded based on fan votes.

As he made his way to the stage, the audience for the most part stood and cheered, but boos were clearly audible. It seemed for a moment, that one group was trying to drown out the other. Bieber was forced to wait until the audience died down before he could begin his acceptance speech.

“I’m 19 years old, I think I’m doing a pretty good job,” he said as boos erupted again. “From my heart I really just want to say it should really be about the music, it should be about the craft that I’m making.

“This is not a gimmick; I’m an artist and I should be taken seriously and all this other bull should not be spoken,” he added.

By bull, it was unclear whether Justin was referring to his on-again, off-again relationship with Selena Gomez or his various run-ins for the law. In his latest incident, he’s facing possible criminal battery charges for spitting on and threatening to kill his neighbor.

It’s the latest in a series of rude or aggressive incidents, not to mention a series of traffic violations and embarrassing photos of smoking pot and sampling sizzurp, the street name for an illegal concoction made from codeine-laced cough syrup.

Bieber also won awards for top male artist and social artist.
