Lady Gaga changed the words of the National Anthem for gay pride rally.

Lady Gaga switched up the lyrics to the cherished National Anthem at a gay pride rally in New York City to reflect the newfound freedom of gay couples stemming from the Supreme Court’s historic ruling striking down anti-gay marriage laws.

The singer, 27, broke into an Acapella version of the song after giving a moving speech, no small feat in itself since the song is difficult to sing.

She pretty much followed the script until she came to end of the song. On the verse, “Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave” she substituted “flag of pride yet wave…”

And, she sang the concluding line of the song, which goes: “O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave,” as “O’er the land of the free and a home for the gays.”

The event took place at Pier 26 on Friday (June 28) at New York’s Gay Pride Parade Kick Off Rally.

“When I was in high school and grade school and younger, I was considered to be an outcast and I just couldn’t find my place,” she told the crowd.

“Where did I fit in? And I look back on that time and I remember feeling that I was cut from a different mold.”
