Prince William and wife Kate Middleton are expecting their baby this weekend.

Prince William and wife Kate Middleton are expecting their baby this weekend.

Prince William and wife Kate Middleton are on a final countdown to the birth of their first child, which is expected to happen this Saturday (Jul 13), according to the palace. As soon as the child is born it will automatically receive a royal title as well as the crown.

The royal couple are already known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their child, depending on sex, will get a title as well.

He or she will be a true life prince, or princess, with the title “Royal Highness Prince or Princess of Cambridge. William received the Dukedom as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth in 2011.

The Dukedom of Cambridge is more than 200 years old, but the title hadn’t been bestowed on anyone since 1904 when the second Duke of Cambridge died.

“I think it’s lovely to continue the close link with the Royal family. I think anything which helps to keep Cambridge in the public eye is a good thing as we rely on tourism,” said Cambridge’s Mayor Paul Saunders.

Kate will give birth at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, where William was born in 1982, according to London’s Daily Mail.

Other children the couple have will also be known by the same title, according to a palace spokesman. But only the first-born, male or female, will inherit the throne, barring their death, of course.

An official announcement of the birth will be placed in a glass-fronted easel and attached to the gates of the Palace. Be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for all the latest updates on this story.
