Glee star Cory Monteith, who had struggled with drug addiction, was found dead Saturday.

Cory Monteith, one of the bright stars on the hit Fox show “Glee,” was found dead in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, Canada, yesterday (July 13). His death at 31, stunned his fans, although he has struggled with substance abuse.

Monteith completed a stint in rehab in April for drug addiction. Although no cause of death has been released, a drug overdose is high on the list of possibilities.

He’s battled drug abuse for much of his adult life and did a stint in a treatment facility when he was 19.

Monteith, who was born and raised in Canada, played Finn Hudson on the show. He was dating Lea Michele, 26, who also stars on “Glee.”

His death was confirmed Saturday night by Vancouver police, according to several news reports. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday (July 15), but foul play is not suspected in his death.

Vancouver police statement: “Shortly after noon today [July 13], the Vancouver Police received a call from the BC Ambulance Service regarding a sudden death in a room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at 1038 Canada Place in downtown Vancouver. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old actor Cory Monteith, who achieved great fame on the popular TV series Glee.”

Monteith had been staying at the hotel for a little over a week. He checked in July 6 and was scheduled to depart yesterday. He was last seen Friday (July 12) returning to his hotel after a night of partying with friends.

“Glee” producers expressed their condolences in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person.”

“He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” the statement said.
