One thing is clear, there is no real evidence yet that they are dating, despite several tabloid reports to the contrary.
There’s also a possibility Pitt is gay or bisexual. And, as of last month, he was reportedly still engaged to model Jamie Bochert.
Based on an initial investigation, TheImproper pin-pointed one of the first stories about Stewart and Pitt in yesterday’s (July 13) LondonStar tabloid, not always the most reliable source.
The tabloid claimed the two are “secretly dating.” But then it noted that they met at Paris Fashion Week only a week ago. Given that both were overseas and had other obligations, it doesn’t leave much time for a relationship.
The story line that other tabloids are pursuing claims that Kristen is finally getting over her breakup with Rob and that she has turned to Pitt for companionship.
Sketchy tabloids are resorting to the old anonymous “source” trick to fan the rumor mill. The New York Post has already repeated the story verbatim.
“Kristen’s not over Rob but she’s getting there and Michael’s helping her through it. She vowed to throw herself into work and be single this summer. But when she met Michael last week, they hit it off,” a supposed source told the Sun. “They both hate the spotlight and are smart bookworm types.”
So who is Michael Pitt and what’s the truth?
He’s an American actor and also a musician from West Orange, N.J. At first blush, he seems to cut against Kristen’s preference for English men. Her affair last summer was with English Director Rupert Sanders. And Rob, of course, is English as well.
Before Rob though, she dated American actor Michael Angarano, 25, for nearly three years. Pitt is also 32, nearly 10 years older than Kristen, who turned 23 in April. Sanders, however, was 20 years older than her.
As far as his career goes, he would have to be considered a journeyman actor, although he is on the rise. His breakout role is considered 2001’s “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” He played a transgender rock star.
He’s best known for his role in Bernardo Bertolucci’s 2003 homo-erotic, romantic comedy, “The Dreamers.” Pitt plays an American student in Paris who falls in with a French brother and sister who have, let’s say, unconventional ideas about sexuality and incest.
The movie includes scenes of Pitt full-frontal nude and was fraught with so much nudity, it was initially slapped with an NC-17 rating. Bertolucci cut the homosexual sex scenes from the movie, proclaiming them “just too much,” according to the New York Herald Tribune. The final version was “R” rated.
In the United States, he’s best known for his role as Jimmy Darmody for the past three seasons in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.”
Last year, he was tapped to rep men’s clothing lines for Italian fashion house Prada.
In October, his named also surfaced on some pop culture websites as the “other person” in what initially was published as a blind item, alleging an affair between two high profile actors.
Pitt’s name surfaced in relation to the item in Lainey Gossip, which speculated that he was having an affair with Joseph Gordon Levitt.
“The two had a torrid affair. Which is nothing unusual, of course not. Except that dimples (Levitt) broke up with drama (Pitt) and drama practically had a psychotic break,” the site claimed.
The story also made the rounds on a number of gay-oriented websites.
So where Stewart’s and Pitt’s relationship stands is anyone’s guess. Kristen, though, has had close platonic relationships with other gay men, notably French designer Nicolas Ghesquière, so this may be nothing more than that.
