Katniss and her co-winner Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) are secretly judged to be seditious as they battle where their loyalties lie, and the powers that be cook up a new game to get rid of them.
The 75th Annual Hunger Games will pit all seasoned winners against each other and Katniss will have to fight–and survive–again.
The trailer only provides a fleeting glimpse of Katniss in the arena, but the training sequences involve some pretty awesome special effects. Gale (Liam Hemsworth) also figures into the picture. He’s shown kissing the Hunger Games honey.
The initial movie pulled in $691 million, with the lion’s share of that coming from domestic ticket sales, a blockbuster by any measure, especially against a $78 million production cost. It finished third for the year behind “The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight Rises.”
It looks like traditional cheapskate Lionsgate actually splurged a little more on the sequel.
Most of the original stars are back, including Sam Claflin, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci and Woody Harrelson with Philip Seymour Hoffman joining the cast.
The movie opens Nov. 22, kicking off the Christmas blockbuster season. The trailer was released at Comic-Con in San Diego.
