Gaga will debut the song at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Aug. 25. It will go on sale Aug. 19 on iTunes.
The studio album is Gaga’s first since Born This Way was released in May 2011. Her two previous albums The Fame was released in 2008, followed by The Fame Monster in 2009.
Needless to say, Gaga has built up a lot of anticipation for her latest work. She unveiled the cover art over the weekend in fashion magazine Women’s Wear Daily. She revealed that she was forced to cancel her tour this year because of a broken hip.
Gaga explains the concept behind the image
“It’s the end of the night after the show. When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, something more honest.”
She’s been sidelined for six months because of the injury and says she spent the time shaping up her new album.
To shoot the cover art, she tuned to renowned fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Van Lamsweerde and Matadin also directed her video, shot last week in Los Angeles.
“What I’m saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch,” she said.
