Miley Cyrus channels Nicki Minaj, rapping on a new song by her collaborator Mike Will Made It. She’s taken some heat for bending her genre, but Miley is right to blow off the critics. Why shouldn’t she experiment.
Miley has always charted her own course, going back to her precocious teen years as the star of Disney’s “Hannah Montana.”
While she’s always been a little ahead of the game from an age standpoint, she’s an adult now and should be experimenting with new music genres, just as she is with her own personal life. From experience comes wisdom.
For her part, Miley is staying the course and pushing back on critics. “I know what color my skin is. you can stop with the friendly reminders b*tch,” she Tweeted recently.
Miley’s right on this one; you don’t have to be black to rap.
She makes a feature appearance on Mike Will Made It’s new song “23,” aling with Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J.
Miley’s latest album Bangerz debuts Oct. 8, according to Billboard.
It’s just really amazing how some musicians are lauded for expanding their musical horizons, while others are criticized. Miley has been a media punching bag for so long, slamming her has become a knee-jerk reaction.
