Downton Abbey’s lords and ladies will be heading into Season 4 with a lot of baggage. A new trailer features a first look at Gary Carr who plays African-American jazz singer Jack Ross.
Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) also heads back into the dating game after getting straightened out by the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith).
Mary is struggling to get over the death of her husband Matthew Reginald Crawley (Dan Stevens) while chauffeur, turned son-in-law Tom Branson (Dan Leech) is trying to get over the death of wife Lady Sybil.
Whether either or both find new love will be two story lines in the latest season as the family continues to confront the onrushing 20th Century.
Meanwhile, downstairs, it looks like Mr. Bates (Brendan Coyle) will feeling some pain adjusting to family life with wife Anna May Bates (Joanne Froggatt). He was sprung from prison last season after police concluded he could not have murdered his first wife.
Rose Leslie, who plays fierce Wildling Ygritte on “Game of Thrones,” joins the cast as housemaid Gwen Dawson.
Does she catch Tom’s eye? And, the trailer also provides a first look at Carr, who seems to catch the fancy of thoroughly modern Lady Rose MacClare (Lily James).
Paul Giamatti is also expected to debut in a guest role on the show, but doesn’t appear in the trailer. Check out the clip below and tune into the premiere of Season 4 on PBS Jan. 5.
