Comic-Con Hits New York City; Nerds Go Nuts! (15 photos!)

Comic-Con hit New York City today (Oct.10) drawing swarms of geeks, nerds, ghouls, zombies and assorted costumed characters to the streets around Manhattan’s Javits Center.

More than 150,000 fans are expected to attend the four-day event, making it second only to its San Diego cousin.

Cosplayers, dressed as their favorite heroes and villains, are among the highlights of the convention and they were already in evidence in New York City today (Oct. 10).

They’ll be joined by comic publishers, film and entertainment companies, gaming companies and purveyors of rare collectible comics, which remain the lifeblood of the event, even though it’s grown into much more than comic books.

Movies and popular TV shows will be screened and and celebrities will make appearances. TheImproper will be live-streaming some events starting Oct. 11.

Among some of the show’s highlights:

“Oldboy will be the subject of a panel at 6pm. Spike Lee has remade the South Korean revenge thriller, and there are reports he’ll attend.

Marvel’s new television program, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” will air Saturday (Oct 12). Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb is expected to lead a panel discussion, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The Walking Dead” will host its panel on Saturday as well. New footage will be previewed. Sleepy Hollow, which is already gaining a following on Fox will host its panel on Sunday (Oct. 13). It will by follow by “X Files,” led by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

On the video game front, electronics giant Nintendo will have a major presence once again, promoting flagship titles Super Mario 3D Worlds and Pokemon XY. The game maker will also stage tournaments.

Even car companies are getting into the act. Chevrolet will show off its latest exotics, including the 2013 Corvette.
