The move came as photos were about to surface of McPhee and Morris together.
McPhee, 29, an American Idol finalist and star of the short-lived NBC series “Smash,” was photographed passionately kissing the 40-something director of her show in a Los Angeles parking lot after a lunch date over the weekend.
Actress Mary McCormack, 44, who married Morris in 2003 and has three young children with him, reportedly ordered him out of their Los Angeles home Sunday (Oct. 20) after she learned the photos would appear online.
Morris even went so far as to try to buy the images to squelch the scandal, according to The New York Post’s “Page Six” gossip column. Gossip web site TMZ.com was the first to post the photos, which were snapped after McPhee and Morris were spotted at lunch together.
In apparent effort to quell the uproar over the apparent affair, reps for Morris tried to claim he and his wife had split earlier.
McPhee has reportedly been separated from her husband for six months and wasn’t wearing her wedding ring when she was spotted with Morris, although he was wearing his ring. McPhee married producer Nick Cokas in 2008, when she was 23 and he was 42.
McCormack had been appearing in the new NBC sitcom, “Welcome to the Family,” but the show was cancelled after just three episodes.
