Angelina Jolie, who was awarded Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award over the weekend, praised her late mother Marcheline Bertrand in her eloquent acceptance speech. But she snubbed her father Jon Voight, who was sitting in the audience!

She never mentioned or thanked her father, or posed with him in photos at the event, opening old family wounds that were thought to have been healed six years ago.

Jolie, 38, was honored for her charitable work at the the fifth annual Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Awards in Hollywood.

“Thank you to the members of the Academy for this honor, my dear friends who are here tonight…And most of all, to my family,” she said in reference to partner Brad Pitt and son Maddox Pitt, 12.

“You and your brothers and sisters are my happiness. And there is no greater honor in this world than being your mom,” she said addressing her son.

Then, she began to talk about her late mother. “I don’t know why this is my life and that’s hers. But I will do as my mother asks and I will do the best I can with this life,” she said.

“To be of use. And to stand here today means that I did as she asked. And if she were alive, she would be very proud. So thank you for that,” she added.

Voight’s career was launched by a breakout role in 1969’s “Midnight Cowboy” with Dustin Hoffman. He went on to win an Oscar for best actor in 1979.

He met and married Bertrand, then an aspiring actress, at the height of his career in 1971. It was his second marriage; he divorced his first wife, Broadway actress Lauri Peters in 1967.

He fathered Angelina and brother James before he and Marcheline separated in 1976, a year after Angelina was born.

The split was bitter and the divorce, filed in 1978, took almost two years to finalize. Voight reportedly abandoned his family and spent little time with James or Angelina while they were growing up.

Neither he, nor Marcheline ever remarried. She raised Angelina as a single mom and devoted herself to charitable causes benefiting Native Americans and later cancer victims.

Angelina grew up fast in Hollywood and had a live-in boyfriend by the time she was 14. Despite her rebelliousness, she remained close to her mother.

Marcheline died in January 2007 from ovarian cancer. Angelina, James and Brad were at her bedside when she passed away. Afterward, she and James reconciled with their father, ending years of estrangement.

In 2010, Angelina and James made the video tribute to their mother and posted it on YouTube to mark the third anniversary of her death. (see below)

But it’s clear from Saturday’s ceremony that hard feelings still remain. Over the years, Voight’s politics have swung wildly from the left to the far right, which also caused friction with his daughter.

There’s no doubt he’s proud of her accomplishments, but he was definitely outside looking in at the event, a bitter reminder of their lingering family heartache.
