Paul Walker, known for his role in the Fast & Furious movie franchise, died in a fiery car crash Saturday (Nov. 30). He was 40.

Paul Walker, who gained fame for his role in the “Fast and Furious” movie series, died in a fiery crash earlier today when his high-performance Porsche GT skidded off the road, slammed into an obstacle and burst into flames. Another person in the car was also killed.

Walker, 40, was a passenger in a friend’s Porsche, who may not have been as skilled a driver as Walker was.

Because a Porsche’s engine is located in the rear, the car is subject to a phenomenon known in car circles as “trailing-throttle over-steer.”

In hard-braking situations, the the weight of the engine is prone to throwing the car into a spin because of centrifugal force.

Walker, however, was a car enthusiast and skilled driver who participated in a number of amateur car-racing events.

It’s unknown at the moment what caused the single-car crash, but a friend was reportedly driving. Police are still on the scene inspecting the wreckage, according to gossip site TMZ.

The accident happened in Santa Clarita, a suburban town north of Los Angeles.

Walker was reporting attending a car show benefit on behalf of typhoon relief in the Philippines, and reportedly has been taking friends for rides when the accident occurred.

Jackass’s Ryan Dunn: Here’s How His Porsche Crashed

Paul was born in Glendale, Calif. and raised in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles County. He began acting as a child. His mother, Cheryl Walker, was a fashion model.

He appeared in “Eight Below,” “Into the Blue,” “She’s All That” and “Takers” before starring in the “Fast and Furious” movies.

He plays Brian O’Conner, an undercover LAPD detective who is working with the FBI to crack a series of tractor-trailer robberies. He appeared in seven of the eight films.

The crash of Walker’s Porsche has eerie similarities to the death of “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn.

Dunn was killed in June 2011 when his Porsche flew off a rural Pennsylvania road and was demolished, killing him and passenger Zachary Hartwell. He was travelling at an estimated 130 mph when the car flipped over a guardrail, struck a number of trees and burst into flames.

The cause was never established although there were sizable skid-marks at the scene.
