The trailer blows through enough plot lines to keep your head spinning.
But it also provides a few subtle clues about the fate of those vying for the Iron Throne. It’s certainly a bloody one.
One thing is certain, a lot of scores are waiting to be settled. “The names of every person in Westeros,” says her knightly protector.
Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) sets the tone as the trailer opens.
She spells out who is on her lengthy hit list. It begins, of course, with Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), his new wife, Margaery Tyrell, (Natalie Dormer) and Joffrey’s wicked mother Cersei Lannister(Lena Headey).
She’s also down on Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), who saved Westeros from destruction. He and the other Lannisters gave their blessing for Rob Stark’s brutal betrayal and murder at the Red Wedding. There should be hell to pay for that.
But it doesn’t end there.
Tyrion looks haggard but still alive and mumbling about justice. “You’ve come to the wrong place,” he cautions someone off camera.
Stannis Baratheon, (Stephen Dillane) held the upper hand in Season Two unil his ill-fated attack on King’s Landing sent him scurrying back to his castle to lick his wounds. But doesn’t plan to be a page in somebody else’s history book.
And finally, there’s Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), the mother of dragons, who draws closer and closer to her destiny. “I will do what queens do,” she says. “Rule.”
