The Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA) Party in the Garden was fit for a Rockefeller, make that two or three Rockefellers. The elite New York family was joined by a sprinkling of celebrities and other movers and shakers to raise money for the museum, a place where old money rubs shoulders with the terminally hip.

The Rockefellers, of course, set the standard for dignified wealth and good taste-even if its origins go back to the Robber Baron Era.

In fact, the gala was a regular family outing.

David Rockefeller, the family patriarch and a long-time MoMA contributor, was a guest of honor. The museum’s signature sculpture garden, where the event was held, is named after his mother Abigail “Abby” Aldrich Rockefeller.

The Event
The evening benefited the Museum’s general operating fund, supporting our award-winning educational programs and the care, study, and exhibition of the collection.

David has another celebration coming up; he turns 101 years old on June 12. He is the youngest of six children born to Abigal and financier John Davison Rockefeller Jr.

His grandfather John D. Rockefeller Sr., who lived to the ripe old age of 97, was the co-founder of Standard Oil, the origin of the family’s vast wealth, estimated to be around $250 billion in today’s dollars.

David was joined by daughter-in-law Susan Rockefeller and granddaughter Ariana Rockefeller, who is an entrepreneur in her own right.

Investor Justin Rockefeller and wife Indre Rockefeller also were spotted mingling.

But they were just faces in the crowd compared with actress Helen Mirren, who added celebrity glitter to the event.

Mirren has had a long and distinguished career on stage and in movies, including a Best Actress Academy Award for the 2006 British film “The Queen.” She was accompanied by husband Taylor Hackford.

Hackford is best known for film “An Officer and a Gentleman.” He is a former president of the Directors Guild of America and also an Academy Award winner.

Jeff Koons, Vera Wang and Cindy Sherman were also spotted.

Honored at the event were Wynn Kramarsky, a long-time trustee of the museum and prominent art collector. He attended with wife Sally Kramarsky.

Collectors Glenn and Amanda Fuhrman, Pakistani sculptor Huma Bhabha, painter Mark Bradford and minimalist artist Brice Marden were also honored.

The event sponsored by Agnes Gund, Jo Carole, Ronald S. Lauder, Catie and Donald Marron and Amy and John Phelan.

Swedish singer Robyn and her band provided musical entertainment. Matthew Dear was the DJ.

Over all, the crowd was an interesting mix of Wall Street bigwigs and hipster artist types, including some real artists, who weren’t above touting pet causes. Artist Marilyn Minter was spotted with a “pro-choice” tee-shirt.

And, someone even wore a cape.
