Royal Coup: Paris Vogue Lands Charlotte Casiraghi (photos!)

Charlotte Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco and granddaughter of film icon Grace Kelly, covers French Vogue’s fashion issue, in a major coup for the magazine.

The September fashion issues, featuring the new fall campaigns, are among the largest of the year, and magazine editors go out of their way to make their covers memorable.

The American flagship edition of Vogue features Kate Moss, an industry icon for two decades, with the added bonus of publishing her fabulous wedding photos.

British Vogue features Danish model Freja Beha Erichsen, a rising supermodel who has walked for nearly every major label and is known for dating fellow models Catherine McNeil, and Arizona Muse.

But Casiraghi tops them all.

She is fourth in line to Monaco’s throne and bears a striking resemblance to her mother and her grandmother, two of the most beautiful women in the world.

When she was 4, her father, Italian mogul Stefano Casiraghi, was killed in a boating accident. Perhaps, it’s made her more serious than her jet-setting mother and aunt Princess Stephanie.

At 25, she is already accomplished. She has competed in equestrian show jumping competitions, works as Editor-at-large for Above magazine and was co-founder of Ever Manifesto, a magazine the melds fashion and environmentalism.

In the photos spread, shot by Mario Testino, who also shot the British and American editions, her dark smoky looks are featured. She wears Chanel, Balmain, Isabel Marant and Gucci.

She is s fixture on the Paris fashion scene, and often photographed at fashion shows, equestrian events and art exhibits. She appeared on Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed list in 2006.

Both Casiraghi and Erichsen represent departures from past covers.

The former because French Vogue is known for edgy shots and Charlotte rarely models. The latter because she is relatively unknown.

Casiraghi is also new editor, Emanuelle Alt’s first pick for the jumbo issue. He succeeded Carine Roitfeld earlier this year.

It looks like his tenure is off to a good start. Check out her photos.
