Designer Herrera provides some fresh insight into how the gown was created and what Stewart thought when she first saw it.

“We did three fittings. When she initially put on the dress and looked over her shoulder into the mirror, she was very moved,” Herrera tells the new issue of Town & Country Weddings.

“In that moment she was not an actress or a character in a film but instead a bride, and a happy one at that,” she said.

Robert Pattinson Reveals Wedding Details

Herrera’s gown was one of the most closely guarded secrets of the movie. Most of the cast in the audience of the fiction wedding hadn’t even scene it before the scene was shot, according to Pattinson.

For the movie, Kristen said she wanted the dress to have a traditional old-world elegance since Edward was a bit old-fashioned and more than 100 years old. The long-sleeved silk dress has lace detailing on the sleeves and a cut-out illusion back with buttons running the length.

“I took into consideration the character of Bella and Kristen’s portrayal of her, and what this fantasy character would choose to wear for the most important day of her life,” the designer tells the magazine.

“The neckline is a slight V, just enough to see the collarbones. The back is oval-shaped, with a Chantilly lace border veiled in tulle.

“It’s very romantic, and when all the details come together, it creates a vision specific to Bella’s style and personality,” she added.

The dress, said to cost $35,000, was topped off by specially-designed Manolo Blahnik jewel-encrusted shoes.

Summit Entertainment hired bridal retailer Alfred Angelo months in advance of the movie’s debut to start working on replica dresses, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The effort was so secret that Alfred Angelo stores had no warning prior to the arrival of the Bella dress in stores. Both will be part of Herrera’s 2012 collection and well sell for about $800.
