Family secrets begin to slip out about the Parker family’s gruesome tradition in ‘We Are What We Are.’

Julia Garner and Ambyr Childers play sisters in a creeped-out family the practices ritual cannibalism to put food on the table in Jim Mickle’s movie, “We Are What We Are.” A new trailer shows just how creeped out they really are.

Garner and Childers are joined in the cast by Michael Parks, Kelly McGillis, Nick Damici, Wyatt Russell, and Jack Gore, who makes his acting debut.

The head of the family is a poor watchmaker, Frank (Bill Sage) who provides for his family by serving up people for dinner. One day he dies suddenly and other family members must take up the ancestral tradition. But they prove to be finicky eaters.

They refused to eat tender morsels from homosexuals and prostitutes and that turns out to be their undoing. Police get wind of what’s going on when a human finger is found in the father’s stomach during a routine autopsy.

Human bones also wash up after a flood, and two police detectives begin piecing together a case. They’re also troubled by the fact that 30 people have gone missing in their small town.

The film is a remake of a Mexican director Jorge Michel Grau’s 2010 film “Somos Lo Que Hay.”
