The nice thing about a fantasy movie is the unlimited possibility of special effects, and they are clearly one of the stars of the movie.
The film will also feature Evangeline Lilly, Cate Blanchett, Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Richard Armitage and Luke Evans.
Benedict Cumberbatch provides the voice of the dragon Smaug. There’s a scene in the clip that reflects the movie’s title.
The movie essentially picks up where “The Hobbitt” left off. Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) is still on his journey with Wizard Gandalf (McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Armitage) on a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
You may recall, Smaug ejected the dwarves from their underground fortress and its fantastic treasure and started them on their long journey.
The trailer was released as part of a fan appreciation day yesterday (Nov. 4) that was celebrated around the world in four satellite cities, Los Angeles, New York, London and Wellington.
Peter Jackson and members of the cast and crew showed the trailer and some behind the scenes activity that went into the making of the film.
The film hits theaters Dec. 23. Until then, check out the trailer and a behind-the-scenes clip below, and be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for the latest Hobbit news.
