“Marvel Universe Live!,” a new arena extravaganza from Feld Entertainment, debuted last night (Aug 13) at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, bringing together Marvel’s top characters, from Spider Man and The Avengers to the X-Men.

At the VIP pre-party, actress Katie Holmes was spotted with cancer kids from the Sunrise Day Camp in Wyandanch, NY.

Also spotted in the crowd were “Jersey Boys” actor Donnie Kehr, Russian-gymnast Nastia Liukin and actress Irina Pantaeva, Miss Teen USA, K. Lee Graham and Miss USA, Nia Sanchez.

Liev Schreiber, supermodel Karolina Kurkova, Boston Celtics player Rajon Rondo and former “Gossip Girl” Kelly Rutherford also made appearances.

The show, staged by the company behind “Disney on Ice” and the “Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus,” is the first time that all of the superheroes have been pulled together.

For those in the know, Marvel sold Spidey and X-Men to rival film studios, thus preventing any on-screen meeting with Iron Man or The Avengers.

Now, Disney owns Marvel, and this live presentation (something the Mouse House knows how to do well) brings the entire universe of superheroes together.

Each character has a specially prepared entrance and the loudest ovations and screams were (not surprisingly) for Iron Man, Captain America and The Hulk

Before a dead-ringer for Robert Downey, Jr. becomes Iron Man, he talks almost in rhyme and riddles as Tony Stark. Meanwhile Bruce Banner also bantered on stage before Hulk-ing out.

While the dialogue is juvenile, it sure hit almost each-and-every Marvel-chestnut, thoroughly entertaining the sold out crowd.

The event is designed to excite preteens and distract their parents. It is, by any measure, silly. And yet, in spite of itself, this glorious mess, is also an unintentional tutorial statement about what Marvel is in 2014.

It’s funny, when I first read the original Marvel-comics way-back-when, they were heralded for their terrific story telling with intricate and emotional plot points. For kids today, no other equal exists.

Rumors surrounding the presentation claimed it was substantially favored Marvel characters who bring in the most profit. That may account for the fact there was no mention of the Fantatsic Four, who are about to be resurrected in a movie reboot.

Spidey, sold to Sony years ago, is relegated her to a very brief role. And, just three of the X-Men are only briefly referenced.

But, make no mistake; Hollywood has taken a real interest in Marvel’s movies success.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” have returned with a vengeance and The Mighty Morphin Powers Rangers are next for big-screen treatment.

In the next few years, we’ll also have Dr. Strange, more Batman movies and even more Avengers to entertain us. It’s a superhero world, we just live in it.
