“I never wanted any of this,” Katniss says to The President, played by Donald Sutherland, as the clip opens.
“I never wanted to be in the games. I just wanted to save my sister and keep Peeta alive.”
“Ms. Everdeen,” he replies, “it’s the things we love most that destroy us.”
The film, based on the final book in the series by Suzanne Collins, is set in a dystopian world sharply divided between the oppressed masses and the extremely wealthy.
To keep the populace in line, the government stages the “Hunger Games,” which pits two teens from each of the nation’s 12 districts against each other in a fight to the death.
Katniss won the game twice and is considered a national hero. She becomes a reluctant champion of the downtrodden, who look on her as their savior, symbolized by the Mockingjay.
Katniss must decide what path to take when she discovers that Peeta is alive and being used by The Capitol to counter her influence.
The film is set to open in theaters Nov. 21 and will be followed by part 2.
