Cate Blanchett knows how to play evil. Disney provides a better look her character in a new trailer for he live action remake of “Cinderella,” and she looks like she could steal the movie as the wicked step-mother.

It’s hard to find anyone who isn’t familiar with the story, so the key to the movie’s success is in the telling and the characters.

“It’s a very unusual project because anybody sitting down almost certainly knows the story,” Director Kenneth Branagh told E! News.

The movie is a remake of the 1950s Disney animated classic, so it has big shoes to fill. But Lily James as Cinderella and Blanchette look more than up to the task.

Plus, Disney’s cinematography and special effects give the movie an extra kick.

James, an English actress, is probably best known as the thoroughly modern aristocrat in the English period series “Downton Abbey.”

Blanchette, who hails from Australia, has won two Oscars. Her most recent was Best Actress for her portrayal in the 2013 Woody Allen film “Blue Jasmine.” She also won a best supporting actress Oscar.

With her new film role, she joins the pantheon of fairy tale movie witches and evil doers.

The includes Charlize Theron as the evil queen in “Snow White and the Huntsman,” Angelina Jolie as the name character in “Maleficent,” Meryl Streep as the wicked witch in “Into the Woods” and “Julia Roberts” as the wicked queen in “Mirror, Mirror.”

As the story goes, Ella, who becomes known as “Cinderella,” moves in with her stepmother (Blanchett) and daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera), after her father remarries following the death of Ella’s mom.

After her father unexpectedly dies, Ella is left to the cruel devices of her step-mother and step-sisters. But Ella lives by her dying mother’s wish to “have courage and be kind.”

With the help of her fairy god mother (Helena Bonham-Carter), Ella is able to attend a ball where she hopes to meet up again with a young handsome stranger from the Palace. Little did she realize the stranger, Kit (Madden), is a prince.

The film opens in theaters March 13, 2015.
