Shailene Woodley gets a mighty mean sunburn as Tami Oldham in the seafaring movie “Adrift.” The first new trailer shows her taking command of her storm ravaged sailboat and nursing mate, Richard Sharp (Sam Claflin) back to health as they struggle to survive.
The movie has all the makings of an adventure in paradise. The two meet and fall in love in a Tahiti.
They get the opportunity of a lifetime to ferry a yacht from Tahiti to California across a 1,000 mile expanse of the Pacific Ocean.
It really is an adventure in paradise for the two love birds until the encounter one of the largest hurricanes ever recorded in the Pacific Ocean.
They battle mountainous waves until their boat is finally swamped by a giant sea swell. After that things are so swell aboard.
Tami survives relatively unscathed inside the boat, but Richard is cast over the side with broken ribs and a gnarly looking shinbone.
Tami saves him and they begin and terrifying ordeal trying to survive in their heavily damaged boat, which manages to remain afloat… barely.
The film is directed by Baltasar Kormákur based on a script by Aaron Kandell, Jordan Kandell and David Branson Smith.
The film was actually shot in Fiji.
Woodley has been out of circulation on the big screen since her 2016 turn in the spy movie “Snowden.” But she’s been knocking them dead in HBO’s drama series “Big Little Lies.”
Claflin is well known for his roles in “The Hunger Games” and “Snow White and the Huntsman,” with Kristen Stewart.
“Adrift” is set for release on June 1. Check out the trailer below.
