If you couldn’t get enough of Millie Bobby Brown in Netfix’s “Stranger Things” series, you definitely have “Godzilla” to look forward to. The new trailer, released at San Diego Comic Con, shows Millie deliver a full-on sense of urgency to the picture.
After two seasons dealing with monsters on “Stranger Things,” –and being a bit of a monster herself– she’s got that fierce, foreboding look down. Brown has a way of exuding intensity on-screen that is riveting.
“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is a sequel to the 2014, Gareth Edwards reboot of the classic 1954 Japanese science fiction kaiju film. Back then, the special effects were hokey, which helped elevate Godzilla to cult classic status.
Today, modern CGI can make on-screen monsters all too real. In fact, Godzilla and his/her Monster movie knockoff cousins, Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah get rather favorable treatment.
The giant, fire-breathing lizards are called Titans, and they’re waking from a deep slumber to reclaim the earth from errant humans, who have despoiled the planet. They’re “the original and rightful” rulers.
The trailer opens with a closeup of Brown staring intensely at a massive tsunami sweeping into the city. She barely dodges it before the waves crash over her. The next scene cuts to a group of scientists, who fill-in the backstory.
Michael Dougherty directs and co-wrote the sequel. Amazingly, it’s the 35th film in the Godzilla franchise,
The film also stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ken Watanabe and Zhang Ziyi.
