Brie Larson is kicking ass and taking names as Captain Marvel in a new trailer for the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hey! It’s about time a woman gets a solo title role in a Marvel superhero film. And, she’s every bit as bad as Wonder Woman.

The first trailer for “Captain Marvel” was released today, featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. The future director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a low-level functionary in this film because it’s set in the 1990s.

Also appearing are Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, Mckenna Grace, Clark Gregg and Jude Law.

Larson plays Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with an alien’s through a freak accident. She sudden discovers she has, you got it, super powers.

She literally drops into her first scene, falling from the sky and crashing through the roof of a Blockbuster video rental store. If that doesn’t date the movie, nothing will. The once prolific chain went out of business in 2013.

She definitely looks out of place, wearing a high-tech suit, wandering around in the subway trying to figure out what happened. It must be New York City; no one is paying any attention to her.

No one, that is, except eagle-eyed Nick. “I know a renegade solider when I see one,” he says. “It never occurred to me that one might come from above.”

The trailer, released this morning on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” provides a glimpse of her back-story and shows off some of her dazzling superpowers.

She even slugs a grandma on a bus. Must have something to do with a shapeshifting Skrull. Anyway, that’s our guess.

She has lots of questions about her past and identity, but rises to the occasion when Earth becomes a pawn in an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.

The film is written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with an assist from Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch.

Check out the trailer below. The film hits theaters on Mar. 8, 2019.
