Karl Urban takes over as Dredd in a reboot of the 1995 cult classic starring Sylvester Stallone, but the new film doesn’t share much else with the original, according to its first trailer.
The sci-fi thriller unfolds in the ruins of a megalopolis running from Boston to Washington, DC. Special cops called “Judges” must maintain order, and no one is badder than Dredd.
Mutants inhabit a vast radioactive desert. Veteran Dedd teams up with newbie Judge Cassandra Anderson played by Olivia Thirlby. They’re on the trail of a terrorist group headed by a ruthless leader, Ma-Ma Madrigal, played by “Game of Throne’s” Lena Headey.
The gang controls the sale of a mind-altering drug called Slo-Mo that’s reaching epidemic proportions in Mega City One. Ma-Ma will stop at nothing to protect her ‘hood so she launches a dirty, vicious war against the Judges.
Ma-Ma, once a prostitute, controls a 200-story slum that the Judges must penetrate to crack the drug ring.
Pete Travis directed and Alex Garland wrote the script for the British-made neo-noir action film. Check out the clip below.
