Tom Cruise ventures into science fiction for his latest action/adventure movie, “Oblivion.” A new trailer shows Cruise on an alien world, hey wait, it’s earth! Seems the planet has been trashed and he’s out to save it.
Cruise teamed up for the film with Director Joseph Kosinski, who also helmed “TRON: Legacy” and produced “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” so you know the special effects will be top rate.
The cast is also top notch. It includes Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Melissa Leo, Zoë Bell and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, with former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko providing the eye candy.
Cruise plays Jack Harper, one of the last drone repairmen stationed on Earth who apparently still makes house calls. The planet has been ravaged by a war against alien invaders. While the humans won, the planet lost. It’s almost uninhabitable.
The trailer shows Jack going about his hum-drum business repairing drones in a mop-up operation. Most of the human population has been evacuated from earth, or so he thinks. He stumbles onto a band of humans, led by Freeman’s character Malcolm Beech, a resistance leader.
He crosses paths with a mysterious woman, whom he spots in a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands, according to a film synopsis. Like most Cruise films, there’s lots of stunts and non-stop action and soaring special effects.
The movie is set to open April 19th. Check out the trailer below.
