Lana Del Rey sings in her signature wispy style in her new melodic ballad “Shades of Cool.” The song departs from her previous work in at least one way: it’s less fatalistic than most of her other songs.
This time out, the 27-year-old singer is hooked on a boyfriend who is all about “blue eyes and jazz and attitude.”
‘Cause you are invincible
I can’t break through your world
‘Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
Rick Nowels, a frequent collaborator, co-wrote the tune from her upcoming third studio album, Ultraviolence. It’s due June 13.
On May 7, Del Rey released the video for “West Coast,” the album’s first official single. She collaborated with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach.
