Jack White played a rare indoor date on his current tour last night (July 3) at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith in London, banging out hits, while head-banging on stage with his backing band.
White, 38, expressed frustration prior to the show over having to play mostly music festivals and outdoor arenas on his current road trip.
“I guess I’m trying to put on a club show for 100 people in front of 100,000 people,” he told BBC Radio One in an interview.
White previous gig was at the Glastonbury Music Festival where he played on the venues storied Pyramid Stage in front of a crowd numbering about 60,000.
In contrast, he played before about 8,500 fans in a fairly intimate show with a low stage that put the crowd almost right in his face.
Although he’s touring in support of his latest album, Lazaretto, released last month (June 10) he banged out plenty of his earlier hits, like “Sixteen Saltines” from his album Blunderbuss
He also played “Astro,” “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” and “Hotel Yorba.”
He reached back as far as 2007’s Icky Thump to play “You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As Your Told).” He closed out his set with “Seven Nation Army.”
