Chris Brown literally had to do back flips, but he kept his gig on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars, despite trashing his dressing room after a contentious interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Not everyone was happy about it.
Show host Tom Bergeron, Cheryl Burke and others signaled their displeasure before Brown’s appearance.
“I did tell the producers it may be to their advantage to not have me interview him because my natural tendency would be to say something,” Bergeron told Ryan Seacrest on the latter’s radio show.
“Don’t put me in a position where you are asking me to not say something, because I really won’t do that.”
Burke, who is paired with WWE wrester Chris Jericho, also spoke out against Brown’s appearance.
“As a victim of domestic violence, I don’t agree with him coming on the show, but it’s out of my control,” she told Extra.
Burke revealed earlier this year that she was abused by a former boyfriend who beat her with a belt leaving her with huge welts.
But the performance went off without a hitch. Brown performed his new hit “Yeah 3x” and followed up with “Forever” and “Beautiful People.”
The crowd seemed to be in his corner. They gave him a standing ovation along with judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tolioni and Carrie Ann Inaba..
Brown demonstrated why he’s considered such a talented performer.
His performance was in doubt after Brown flew into a rage following an interview with Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts about his assault of pop singer Rihanna, on the eve of the 2009 Grammy show.
He returned to his dressing room and trashed it, shattering a window after throwing a chair. He later apologized for his outburst.
Brown was forced to undergo anger management counseling as part of his plea in the Rihanna beating.
